Baby's First Christmas (Part 3)

As a parent or a grandparent, another great tradition that can be started at Baby's First Christmas is the giving of Christmas ornaments. Every year you give the child a Christmas ornament and by the time they leave home, they have a nice collection to put on their own tree that first Christmas.

My sister began this tradition with each of her daughters. She had no particular theme in mind ... just wanted them to have a fun and memorable collection of their own ... and something they could look forward to each Christmas. Some of them have the girl's name on them, some of them have the year, some of them are sports-themed or Disney-type characters, and some have other meanings.

When the oldest daughter moved into her own place, she bought some basic ornaments and decorations for her tree. But it was with pride and fond memories (and maybe a few tears) that she was able to hang all the ornaments that her mom had bought for her throughout the years. And now that she has kids of her own, she is carrying on the tradition and giving them an ornament every year.

You can find special ornaments anywhere. Your local stores have plenty of selections, pick them up when you are vacationing somewhere, or you can also browse two of my online favorites, Personalization Mall and Personal Creations.

Baby's First Christmas (Part 2)

As the grandparents, a doting aunt or uncle, or even godparents, Baby's First Christmas can be the beginning of a special tradition to go along with that special relationship as the child grows up. Why not start a collection to be added to every Christmas?

You might want to consult with the parents if you'd like some ideas, but that is not necessary. This will be gift from you for the special little one, a gift that will mean more as the child grows older.

My sister-in-law began such a collection for our niece at her very first Christmas. Now that she is 9, she can appreciate the collection of ceramic bears that her mother has held in safe-keeping for her all these years. They give her special memories of the aunt who gives them to her. The bears obviously were not toys she could play with she received them, but now that she is older she can appreciate the new one she gets every year.

Collections can be based on any theme. And the choice is obviously based on the giver, as well as whether it is for a boy or a girl. Bears and dolls are always great for girls, while trains and animals or other figurines are great for boys.

Be sure to select carefully when starting a collection. You want to know that the collection and the source will be available for years to come.

Baby's First Christmas (Part 1)

Baby's First Christmas ... ahhh, what a special time! It will only happen once, so you might as well take advantage of it.

As the parents, what better way to show off your Pride and Joy than to give out pictures of your precious little one?! And a framed picture is a complete gift.

The Christmas before my niece got married, she gave everyone a framed picture of the future Mr and Mrs. Instead of giving just the picture itself where we would then have to go out and buy a frame (and maybe never get around to ever framing and displaying her picture,) she gave us everything we needed in order to display the picture right away. Excellent idea!

But why not carry that idea a step further? Instead of just giving a framed picture of your cutie-pie, why not give the picture in a personalized frame?! And by giving a frame personalized with your child's name, you know that whoever you give the gift to will always have to keep a picture of your precious child in that frame ... because no other picture will fit the personalization. Sneaky, or what?!

And then over the years, the picture can just be changed as your child grows older. Truly a gift to last a lifetime!

While basic frames can be obtained anywhere, Personal
is a great place to get personalized frames. I used them last Christmas and was very pleased with the product and the service.

My Gift to You

Welcome to my blog!

Here you will find suggestions for gifts for any occasion, unique ways to wrap gifts, gifts for individuals or groups, ways to make gift giving fun and maybe a little out of the ordinary, and so much more. Each post will provide a gift idea, an example of how it could be given, and then ideas on where to get that type of gift.

Hopefully the ideas and examples will be useful and entertaining so that you will want to come back ... and come back often! I want this blog to kick-start your thinking so that some of my ideas will cause you to have other ideas of your own.

While WHAT you give is important, sometimes HOW you give the gift is just as important ... and fun. This can involve such things as personalizing gifts, letting your creative juices flow, thinking outside the box, you name it.

I want to encourage you to THINK about the gift you are giving and to put some HEART into it, rather than just going out and buying a gift because you "need" to. I think gift-giving should be fun and just as rewarding for the giver as for the receiver.

Since the Season is fast approaching, we'll start with Gift Ideas for Christmas so that you can get started on your Christmas shopping!
